@cgranade Okay, so I haven’t dug too much into the codebase, but from the sounds of it the maintenance overhead of maintaining a base that can be built off of is going to be untenable.
I think the idea of starting from the hardest dependencies to replicate (the ones that are host-specific or expect tools to be installed) and overhauling them so the thing can be built in the first place is going to be your better bet. No point in having an “Archival base” that’s impossible to build, IMO.
